Abandoned Or Not?
The inauguration if this large hospital was celebrated on 3rd October 1959 by P.Meyers, "Minister of Public Health and Family". The construction of a large and brand new hospital was justified by the fact that the workers population from Charleroi and its surrounding was dramatically increasing.
Many times renovated, the hospital will still be abandoned at the end of the nineties, not complying anymore with new safety norms. It becomes then cheaper to build a brand new hospital and to demolish the old one...

The new hospital? No no! The abandoned one!
The hospital lives now its last days, and scrap metal dealers hurry to steal what can be stolen, like the balconies guardrails. The hospital is also sometimes used as a training field for special elite police squads (lot of bullets can be found on the ground, scary!), and on the weekend... Used as a paintball playfield!
Worth the trip: the morgue was in a pretty good state... But not for a long time.
Status Sept. 2007: the demolition has started.
