There are four locos outside but they are marked as sold : "loco vendue - ne rien démonter", and one little wooden wagon.

Hi,

The situation is pretty sad. Only +/- 10 locomotives remain at the site. One in the depot, 6 on the track 12 or so outside and those are sold. 3 + several partly disassembled on the track 4 - 6 outside. I'm glad to remember the sight of the loaded depot from 5 years ago.

If this continues, there won't be no more locomotives by the end of the year.

If you can go and have a final look

Cheers

Hi,

I'm a Belgian Train Driver and fond of derelict sites, so this subject drew my attention. I have a pretty good idea of the whereabouts of this site, as there are not that many locomotive graveyards in Belgium. However, respecting this site's policy and the dignity of the graveyard, I will not reveal it's location. It gives me some sort of dramatic feelings to see this proud machines rot away. I drove many of these beauties. Their beautiful design, paintwork and mechanics are never to come back due to modernization and environmental regulations. They were a pleasure to work with...

Thank you for this nice job,

Hi,
I visited this place on May 1st, 2011. There are some 20 locomotives left, and some are in derelict condition now. And some idiots with stones and spray colors have already found their way. There is almost no window intact round the building and within, even the locos in the shed are sprayed now. All remnants one could carry away are gone now, taken by souvenir-hunters. - This is a VERY good reason to keep those places secret under all circumstances. The car graveyard in Châtillon, in 2008 somewhat mystic, was broadly announced on the web and what happened? Those damned fatnecks from local government cleared it!!! - I had a hard work to find out where the Loco Graveyard actually is :-) will never be disclosed.
Thank you,
Andreas

train yard Sunday 5.sep.09 late morning

We came around 11 am on Sunday and the yard was pretty alive, the bushes were cut around the first 5 - 6 tracks. In the yard building it looked somehow emptier if i compare to our last visit in early March. Then we saw a locomotive running on the last track (the one which goes behind yard building.

Well if I dont confuse things I think that around 10 locomotives were already gone.

Looking at the photos, I made the following observations: Location--first choice is Belgium. There were some instructions in French for dealing with what we call "HAZMAT" in the US (hazardous materials), while there was a box (which may have contained test instruments) labeled in Dutch or Flemish. The locomotive photos told me it was definitely NOT in North America. Although I was rather surprised to see such a "ghost town" scene in what is apparently a Northern Europe location, it could be a mine where the coal or ore was depleted, or a steel mill that became uneconomical to keep in operation. Considering the prices that scrap steel reached not long ago, it's amazing that the locomotives didn't go to the junkyard. Perhaps the owner has hopes of restarting the facility (although bringing the locos back to operating condition becomes more of a challenge as time passes). Perhaps the facility belongs to some government entity, and none of the bureaucrats wants to take responsibility for "pulling the plug". I did notice that some of the locos had names--a practice once common in the US, but now quite rare.

I'm almost sad to have traced this place to its location. As a former magician I know it's not nice to spoil these kind of secrets/mysteries. But I'm very curious myself and if I'll go, I know I'll always respect the etiquettes for Urban Exploring.
I won't let others in on the secret too easily, but I'll tell you this:
I found the hint to tracing this place in another U.E. photo database about this place. There's a "danger de mort"-sign which reveals a clue for those with good eye-sight... Also Google Earth was of assistance after that.

Concerning this site and it's publishers: Keep up this amazingly excellent and high quality imaging/documenting of these wonderful places. Not only get people more respect, they'll possibly learn to understand the treasure of this kind of places in stead of demolishing anything which seems to be in the way of a new project...
