The Steel Giant

"Les Forges de Clabecq" are old steelworks closed down in 1992. This site is very dangerous and its old blast furnace is a famous landmark for industrial architecture lovers.

We strongly advise not to step into this factory, for several reasons. First, it is really dangerous to walk around in these old abandoned buildings. Moreover, this site is inside an active factory owned and still operated by Duferco.

Waiting for an eventual demolition, the ironworks sleep under coal dust and rust.

My father worked here!

Thanks for having this posted. My father worked here for two years between 1947 & 1949. He was from Treviso, Italy & had some friends he knew that were also working there. I can see that the italians had a long history at these mills. I would like to find photos of the plant operating not long after WW2. if you know of anything it would be nice to know.

great photos as always. particulalry like the dusty button console for some reason. technology always seems so clean---something fascinating about seeing it broken down and dirty
