Norwich-State-Hospital
The hospital first opened its doors in 1904 in Norwich, Connecticut. It was built in an idyllic location chosen for its therapeutic properties overlooking the River Thames.
The Norwich Insane Asylum was built isolated from civilization, which worked to its benefit as it began to grow during its early years sprouting new buildings that accompanied the original construction (see aerial view of the hospital here). These new construction projects included patient wards, staff cottages, laboratories and workshops. All of the structures were interconnected by a large network of underground utility tunnels. These tunnels transported electricity, hot water, and patients to various areas on the grounds. The hospital remained self-sufficient, almost like a small town, with its own power plant, pump house, working farm, kitchen, theater and church.
Over 3,000 patients and 1,000 employees were residents on the asylum grounds in the 1950’s.
Slowly patients began to leave Norwich State Hospital due to deinstitutionalization and it permanently closed its doors in 1996. Since then time has basically stood still on the property with a few exceptions. Currently there is talk about converting the grounds into a theme park, but nothing has been set in stone.
After a long tedious drive we leave the car in a commuter parking lot close to the buildings. Ever the vigilant group of explorers we notice a State Trooper making his rounds and dive into the forest for cover. Luckily we outsmarted the police yet again and after regrouping walk along the Thames River for a few hundred feet. We finally see the abandoned pump house looming in the distance and decide to make this our entryway into the campus.
This site has a reputation for being well guarded, well patrolled, and does not take kindly to trespassers. I am always on edge when exploring across the Atlantic and the numerous “State Property – No Trespassing” signs that litter the grounds did not bode well for my paranoia. Instead of exposing ourselves above ground to security and prying eyes, we decided to take the underground route through the utility tunnels.
Using the tunnels we explored many buildings without ever being forced to go outside. This method of travel was soon confirmed to be the safest. On our first attempt to venture outside we were only a few feet away from a security officer in a black uniform. Fortunately he didn’t look our way and we quickly receded back into the tunnel network. For a while we hid in the abandoned theater so we could look around the campus without being seen.
This encounter with security dampened our spirits and made our visit a whole lot shorter than we would have liked. We made our grande exit through the empty chapel, this allowed us to avoid walking back through the forest. As we were walking back to the commuter lot to pickup our car we noticed the State Trooper had been watching us as we suspiciously walked down the road. I wonder where we went to and were coming back from?!

Yeah, this suuuuuuucks!
Damn........
They're taking out the salmon building. Its almost gone.
I love writing stories like that. They're fun.
Earle Stedman and Ray Brigham went Woodward to go fishing at Stribling pond. They spent Awl day enjoying the Pondview, sitting by the remains of an old Power house. Ray had a Bell on the end of his rod, that he had made in the Maintenance shop of the Trade school where worked- though he usually worked in the Administration building. Earle was a doctor, who always flirted with the Nurses in the Lab: weather they were Male or Female employees. Both men worked loads of O.T., so this trip was long overdue.
The Bell on Rays rod began to ring! "I think its a big one" he said. "I love big ones" said Earle, with a wink to Ray. Rays face began to turn White, as he sometimes felt uncomfortable by Earle's advances towards him. "Arrrgh, shut up Earle!" he groaned. "Haha ok-ok" chuckled Earle.
Ray struggled to land the beast, the drag whining as the fish fought to regain its freedom. "Keep your tip up!" shouted Earle. "Heh, that's what she said" giggled ray. Finally, after fifteen grueling minutes- the monster began to tire, and came ashore. A forty-three and a half pound Salmon! Ray was so excited that he accidentally got the hook stuck in his thumb. Earle, being a doctor, quickly got it out using a Cutter to snip the barb- then push the rest of the hook back out.
The two men had to Gallup back to the Lodge as quickly as possible. They wanted to get the fish into the Kettle, and have a surprise dinner ready for their friends Seymour Bryant and Mitchell Lippitt- who had spent the day hiking, and Mitchell's brother Sam. Sam had set off to explore the area by himself. Earle and Ray decided to do some Laundry, as their clothes reeked of fish. On the way back to their Cottage, they stopped at the Greenhouse to grab some vegetables for supper.
About an hour later, a delicious feast lay on the table as Seymour and Mitchell arived, shortly follwed by Sam. Sam walked in and said: "that smells fantastic! I found these boxes of ration crackers, that'll go well with that soup." The others asked: "what did you do all day Sam? Where did you find these fine ration crackers?" Sam grinned, saying, I just splored the shit outta Norwich State Hospital all day long, while you guys were walking around... holding your Dix!

OK so you told me that your dog got sick on my hoodie and everything before. Lemme guess, it gave birth on it now. Anyways whatever. Keep it along with my scarf that you prolly use to choke yourself while you jerk off. My baby works for sliplknot so I can get a shit ton more swag so I'm not worried about it. Btw, grammar was atrocious in your last post. None of it really made any sense. Hope all is well. Have fun sitting in your little shack Mr.Avcrad.
Ummmmmm salmon....bagels schmere ....
look when i said someone got put in there place it was a knock at the person doing it not you sparkle because were not for that an about the hooded i no longer have but i would pay you the difference if you wish that's all i can do for you sorry
So, salmon is pretty much cleaned out, and they have work lights on in there now.
So long, beautiful...
Boo Ya! You got bombed! Haha...get em Sparky. Maybe I can see you soon?
Dude, you're one to talk. You get put in your place all the time. You're also like the biggest liar on here, which is hard to accomplish considering the other lies that have been being told on here for years. I'm glad too see you finally figured out how to use spell check in the past 2 years. NOT. Little tip, if you're going to talk sh*t about someone, make sure you don't give them something to talk sh*t about back. Makes you look dumb. Btw, I want my f*ckin hoodie back. Have a good day John.
glade to hear your back an hope your trip to nsh goes well
I think manafort sold that kids body on eBay already, so its all good.
No, but if you read that article; it sounded like he probably kicked rocks off to Florida.
There's no missing kid inside! I'm pretty sure they would have smelled his carcas by now! Bomb good to see spelling and grammar are not important in your life. But then again you would need to actually have a life first which obviously you don't. I'm back in CT by the way and headed down soon...
He's still missing as of January- peep it: www.wtnh.com
I'm scared I'll run across his remains when traipsing through NSH.
wow someone just got put in there place is it finally becoming fun in here again i hop so !!!!!!
Tuff talk there sparkles. I may have joked around a bit here and there, from time to time about the status of the Wich, but was fairly blatant about it when I did. If anyone believed things like "sniper towers" and "electric fence, omg" then thats their own fault. Don't get all pissy! Its called joking around.
So, let's make some progress, shall we? Look, sure you CAN still go, however- if you don't know the place very, very well and dont do this kind of thing all the time...and havent been keeping up on the changes going on there; you're gonna have a very shitty time! There is absolutely no more tunneling it from building to building. They cut through the tops of the tunnels, and put huge steel plates between buildings. They have also done a great job sealing buildings with huge slabs of concrete and fresh boards. Its such a pain in the ass now, you have no idea! Not worth getting arrested, for sure!
I was....theoretically, just there a couple days ago..(you know- because that would be illegal, and I don't condone that sort of thing). If you check manaforts website, they're selling things from nsh- like the cell doors from salmon, and some of those dressers, with the mirrors on top.
The next buildings going down are supposed to be: salmon, awl, the chapel and the theater.
I heard that they were still in the building..but drove by yesterday, and they had a boxtruck up against salmon- so I'd say they're gone, and probably any other interesting stuff that was in there.
Sorry Sparkles, what mcguilicutty said is true. Be sure to enter where the powerhouse used to be when you go back, and wave to the cameras once you're beyond the fence.
is a lying douche. DO NOT believe anything he says. He's been posting random bs on here forever now. And you're an idiot because we know who you are.
Has anyone been recently? I have not been in the area for a while now. Can anyone tell me what's been going on on the property? Sparkles_Believes@yahoo.com
I drove by the other day and noticed that the Norwich portion of the hospital appears to be for sale. Can anybody shed some light on this?
Like I said when it came to Danvers and North Hamptom the developers destroying these places only have there names and reputations to live by and in my mind they will always be pieces of crap! they are ruining works of art all over New England for nasty looking shabby huts that will last maybe a fraction of how long these places have. As much as I would love to do it legally my military duties keep me occipied in the drity dirty south so everyone post crap around facebook show pics of dead birds on the grounds and blame them for it destroy their name! That is how we can back at them. If you are really bold go dump your used oil on the propery then call the DEC and report the mess so the developer has to clean it up! Dislike security as much as I do? Check out our video on youtube just search "kings Park Psychiatric center part one intro" there are 5 parts and we mock the hell outta security!
I will miss the summer days walking down the train tracks to NSH . Miss the days of sitting in the Theatre high above watching the guards drive back and forth clueless. Sad she has to go
Fucking people trashing shit, they ruined it to a certain extent a while ago, and are ruining for the people who just want to see and photograph the place once more. I cannot express how sad, and angry I will be if I cannot get at least one more trip there before it goes down.
